Tr2n Director Touts Lisberger's Blessing

Tron 2 is big in the news today, and unfortunately they’re still sticking with the awful title of Tr2n, so I guess I’d better start using it. The latest bit of Tr2n news comes from the movie’s director, Joseph Kosinski, who spoke with AICN about the project.

According to Kosinski, the rumors that Tron creator Steven Lisberger has been kicked entirely off the project are untrue. He’s involved as a consultant, and the movie has his blessing. Lisberger is even on board with the new lightcycle design which we saw in the Comic Con teaser making the rounds earlier this summer. In the original movie, the lightcycles are more like mini-cars, with the drivers riding inside them. In the teaser for the new film, riders are on the outside, and joined to the bike, almost as if they’re one piece. Apparently this is closer to what Lisberger had in mind all along, he just couldn’t accomplish it with limited 80s technology. Whether that’s true or not… I’m going to miss the old lightcycles.

Other tidbits from interview include a release date target of late 2010, and the news that Disney will shoot the entire thing in stereoscopic 3D, which was also what the teaser was shot in. For more, head over to AICN.
