Subscribe To Weekend Box Office - Inception's Box Office Bank Is More Than A Dream Updates
Christopher Nolan is one of those directors who just can't make a bad movie. Well, maybe he can, but unlike so many in Hollywood he chooses not to do it. Finally, he's starting to get the attention he deserves at the box office.

Ignoring his incredibly lucrative and well played revival of the Batman film franchise, Nolan has never been a big box office draw. Outside of Batman his biggest opening was Insomnia which took in $21 million in 2002. This weekend Inception tripled that total with a solid $60 million debut.

Nolan has also never had a non-Batman movie cross the $100 million mark in US sales, something Inception is easily on track to beat. But there's a hiccup in the numbers. Inception also marks his second biggest budget ever at $165 million (second to Dark Knight's $185 million tab). With only $15 million in international sales to date, Inception has a hard road ahead to cross from the red to the dream land of financial feasibility.

Disney's latest attempt to mine its past for new franchises flopped hard at the box office this weekend. After a sleepy Wednesday opening which only drew $3 million, the movie went on to be generally ignored by audiences for three more days. The weekend saw only $17 million for a five-day combined bank of only $24 million. International sales didn't offer the Sorcerer any magic boons either, adding only $8 million to the pot. That's a tough curse for a movie running on an effects heavy $150 million budget.
