In case you didn't already realize, 2014 was a pretty damn good year for crime movies - and for proof of that fact, you need look no further than the latest supercut that has come across our desk. Check it out below!
Bringing together clips from 33 movies that were released during 2014 - some titles featured more prominently than others - this is the latest video from YouTube user Alex Eylar, and I think that you'll all agree with me that it's pretty fantastic. If you're going to make a supercut featuring a large number of thrillers, you need to make the audience's collective pulse rise, and that's exactly what this cut does.
While most of the fun in these supercuts (for me, anyway) is seeing if you can name all of the movies that are featured, you can check all of your answers below, thanks to the description on the YouTube page:
A MOST VIOLENT YEAR
If I had to wager a guess, I'd say that Alex Eylar's favorite crime movie of 2014 was Dan Gilroy's Nightcrawler - given that it basically takes over the final third of the clip - and I can't honestly blame the editor for their selection. The movie features one of the best performances Jake Gyllenhaal has given in his career, and the creepy monologue you see above is only the tip of the iceberg. If you haven't already seen it, it's very much a movie worth pursuing (as are many other titles on the list above).
Terrific as Alex Eylar's job is on this particular video, it's not the only genre-specific edit he has put together celebrating the last 12 months. While he has no plans on making a clip that encompasses the entire cinematic landscape of 2014, he has also put together a rather fantastic cut that brings together movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, Edge of Tomorrow, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Godzilla and more into one epic sci-fi celebration. To see it, head on over to Page Two - and you can thank me later!
