‘Til Death is a show about marriage, both new and old. Garrett and Fisher play Eddie and Joy Stark, a couple who has been married for nearly 9,000 days, or 23 years. Jeff and Steph Woodcock, played by Thomas and Foster, are the unbearably adorable and in-love newlyweds who move in next door.

The foursome, of course, become friendly and the Starks proceed to drop some knowledge bombs about marriage on the younger couple. Apparently, after 23 years of marriage, you’re not all excited to look into your spouse’s eyes all the time. Sometimes, you just want the garbage taken out! Shocker! But don’t worry, The Starks also show us that while the passion may fade, love still remains.

I’m the first to admit that I’m just not the demographic for this show. I’m not married at all, so I can’t really identify with either of the couples. My utter apathy for ‘Til Death goes beyond that, though. I’m also not a sassy, single senior living in Miami, but I still love me some Golden Girls, because that show was and always will be awesome.

‘Til Death just seems like another tired sitcom that trots out the same tired witticisms. I will bet $10 that if they haven’t already, there will be some variation on the whole, “do these jeans make my butt look big” question, after which, “hilarity” will ensue. The only reason ‘Til Death exists in the first place is because Brad Garrett pissed off CBS, so they didn’t give him the Everybody Loves Raymond spinoff he had been gunning for.

Last season’s ratings were lackluster and only improved at the very end after it was given a spot following American Idol and your mom left the TV on as she voted for “that adorable boy who makes the weird sounds with his mouth.” Unfortunately for the cast and crew of ‘Til Death, in September, there will be no Blake Lewis to save you.
