Sherlock Series 2 Preview: The Hounds Of Baskerville

Sherlock was back on U.K. televisions last week with “A Scandal in Belgravia.” The much discussed, and heavily praised, Series 2 opener introduced the sleuth’s famous female adversary, Irene Adler, adding an unlikely romantic interest for our lead and disrupting the male bonding typically found at 221B Baker Street. The BBC One adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation continues this week with "The Hounds of Baskerville," a play on perhaps the author’s most famous work, “The Hound of the Baskervilles.”

If the prospect of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss playing with the seminal work - "The Hound of the Baskervilles" - isn’t exciting enough, BBC has also released a few trailers to ensure that you won’t want to miss this episode. The first look is another one of the brief TV spots that we shared last week, however, this time the forced anagram is actually quite clever considering the three words - Secret, Horns, Lurk - actually apply to the footage and plot of the upcoming episode. Take a look.

Then there’s also this brief preview for “The Hounds of Baskerville,” which focuses a bit more on building anticipation for the episode's story, as well as giving us a what we all want to see, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman bantering as Sherlock and Watson. Oh, and there’s also mention of “they were the footprints of a gigantic… hound.” Excited yet? Watch and you will be.

Sherlock Series 2 airs on BBC One on Sundays at 8:30 p.m. As for North Americans, we won’t see the second season of BBC’s Sherlock until May 2012 on PBS - unless you have a region free DVD/Blu-ray player and decide to purchase the entire season on January 23, 2012. Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. It was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.

Official synopsis (and there’s an even lengthier trailer, if in the right region) from the BBC One Sherlock website,

Something terrible has happened to Henry Knight; Sherlock and John investigate the truth about the monstrous creature which apparently killed their client’s father. A hound from hell? What seems like fantasy in Baker Street is a very different prospect in the ultra-secret army base that looms over Dartmoor.
