Mass Effect 2: Commander Shepard Dies Permanently
In the new developer diary that follows-up on the exclusive footage BioWare showed off at E3, gamers were treated to all kinds of potential spoilers. However, one thing was made clear: Commander Shepard lives. Now, the developers revealed that Commander Shepard could die permanently based on player decisions and if he dies, he wonít be in Mass Effect 3.
Shocking? Not really, the series has already key-stoned its success on player driven choices, so itís not surprising that at the end of the day (or rather, game) the playerís decisions will ultimately affect if Commander Shepard lives or dies for the third and final game.
The thing that rattles my brain is how Mass Effect 3 will play out if certain players actually manage to keep the Commander and his team alive as opposed to players who arenít diplomatically aggressive enough to keep the lead character from buying the farm. Will BioWare allow for two protagonists? One for players who keep Shepard alive and one for players who kill him off? How will the story progress or ultimately resolve itself? Regardless, BioWare has their hands full thatís for sure.
