One of the big criticisms often leveled at Alien vs. Predator and by extension its upcoming sequel Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, is that the movies are inexplicably mired on planet Earth. A big part of the fun in the franchises they’re combining is that some of it’s taken place off planet and in space. AVP could use a little out of this world action, and according to ShockTillYouDrop the sequel AVP-R may get it.
The first teaser for Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem was focused exclusively on planet Earth, but they have a source who claims that at some point the movie will get off planet and spend some time on the Predator home world. Apparently this is more than just a wild rumor, because in an interview at FangoriaAVP=R co-director Greg Strause says the trailer is missing a lot of what will be in the movie, including “a new world.”
I don’t know if this new version of AVP will really be any good, but it’s starting to seem almost certain that at the very least it’ll be different than Paul W.S. Anderson’s take on the whole Alien vs. Predator thing. The Strause brothers are trying to address fans concerns, let’s hope some of it works. Bad as Anderson’s original movie was, there’s plenty of room for this franchise to get worse.
