The Angriest Man In Brooklyn Gets A Really, Really Angry Trailer
Everyday, people are told they have a short amount of time to live. In fact, more than a few movies are about characters coming to terms with their impending death and trying to set things right. Stepmom would be a good example, but an overwhelming majority of the time, these people are told they have months or at least weeks to live. In the first trailer for The Angriest Man In Brooklyn, Robin Williamsí Henry Altmann is told he has 90 minutes, though that seems to be either an outright lie or a gross exaggeration.
As you can see in the above trailer, dropped by Yahoo, that realization sets the main character off on a frantic dash to make everything right with all of the people in his life who heís pissed off over the years. That list includes but is not limited to his son, his estranged wife, his brother and pretty much everyone heís ever met. In short, heís a complete dick, and he doesnít want to be remembered that way.
Robin Williamsí career is a hodgepodge of different genres, different goals and different executions. Sometimes, heíll use every bone in his body and every word in his vocabulary to try and coax out as many laughs as possible. Sometimes heíll shoot for understated or emotional, but regardless, heís spent the majority of his career playing decent people the audience could get behind and root for. So, let the record show this trailer and this movie are a bit of a departure.
That being said, Williams still is known for his ability to sell out and give everything to a role if thatís what is called for, and he definitely does that here. I mean, for the love of God, check out this grizzled old man faceÖ
For a movie like this to work, it really needs to get the right balance between drama or comedy down. It canít sell out its characters in the name of a few laughs, but it also canít go off the deep end and completely forget to smile. Williams doesnít always have the best filter himself, but heís capable of giving incredible performances. He just needs a director who chooses the right takes and points him in the right direction.
In addition to Williams, The Angriest Man In Brooklyn also stars the newly pregnant Mila Kunis, Melissa Leo, Peter Dinklage and rising star Hamish Linklater. Itís scheduled to open in select theaters and on On Demand May 23.
