If the creative team behind Fox’s short-lived but beloved sitcom Arrested Development had a nickel for every time they were asked about a potential feature film version of the show… well, they could fully fund the first movie and a handful of sequels. Toss another nickel into the pot because George Bluth himself, Jeffrey Tambor, says the Arrested movie is happening… again. But this time he means it.

Tambor was promoting his latest film Lucky, a dark comedy with Colin Hanks about a serial killer who win s the lottery, when the Huffington Post asked him the inevitable Arrested question … the same on that has dogged Tambor, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, Ron Howard and every member of the Arrested ensemble since this rumor started so many years ago. This time, though, Tambor had a positive response, stating that it’s “all going straight, everyone's on board, I know they're writing, and maybe next time this year we'll be having this conversation."

That’s hardly, “We start shooting on Sept. 1.” But it’s also not, “The movie’s dead, stop asking.” Sounds familiar, right? And it’s this type of waffling Arrested creator Mitch Hurwitz wants to avoid for fear of stringing rabid fans along. Yet every time we think we have a development in the ongoing Arrested saga, there’s always vague speak. (Like here, where Howard said Hurwitz was “determined” to make an AD movie. Determined? What does that mean? If you are so determined, make the damn movie!)

In the meantime, poor Bateman had to listen to a stream of journalists try to compare Bosses to Development in their reviews and interview pieces, and Tambor has to deflect a hungry press corps at a Lucky junket with half-hearted promises of “maybe next time this year.” Listen, I want to see more Arrested as much as the next person, but I won’t believe in this film until it’s finally opening in a theater near me … and I get the feeling you won’t, either.
