Saoirse Ronan To Headline WWII Drama How I Live Now
Saoirse Ronan is blowing up. She just grabbed a Critics’ Choice Movie Awards nomination for her feral role in Joe Wright’s underrated Hanna (if you haven’t yet, see it), she’s currently filming the vampire drama Byzantium for director Neil Jordan, and Variety has just paired her with The Last King of Scotland helmer Kevin Macdonald for How I Live Now, an adaptation of Meg Rosoff’s 2004 novel.
The Irish lass Ronan will play Daisy, a New York City teen who’s forced to spend a summer in England with her family on the eve of World War II. When the battles reach Daisy and her family, she escapes into the woods with a younger girl named Piper and is forced to fight for her survival.
Is there any chance her Hanna character can crossover?
How I Live Now reunites Macdonald with his King of Scotland screenwriter Jeremy Brock, who has collaborated with Tony Grisoni on the script. Film 4 will produce, though we don’t yet have a release date.
I also wonder when Ronan will be able to film. As mentioned, she’s deep into Byzantium production and she recently wrapped the teen assassin film Violet & Daisy opposite Alexis Bledel, and you know she’s going to have to publicity for it. She has also been tapped to headline Andrew Niccol's planned adaptation of The Host, the next project based on a novel by Twilight scribe Stephenie Meyer. These are busy times for Ronan, but she’s so damn talented it's hard to complain.
