Toy Story's Lee Unkrich Reveals Woody's Last Name

People with one name more often than not fall into the “douche” category. There’s Madonna and Cher, Britney and Bono, and of course, W. I guess the fewer the letters, the douchier the person. But there are some people who don’t necessarily go by one name, fictional characters whose creators either consciously omit a last name or just never get around to stating it.

Well, we can take Woody from the Toy Story movies off that list, as Lee Unkrich, director of Pixar’s upcoming Toy Story 3 posted on his Twitter today, stating that “Woody’s actual full name is ‘Woody Pride’ and has been since the earliest days of developing the original Toy Story.” In fact he says the character's full name has been out there for awhile now, buried in ancillary Pixar promotional materials, but somehow we've all just overlooked it.

Things like this can change the view of a character, but in Woody’s case, this seems fitting, especially in the context of the first movie. Even so, the name won’t have much impact on the movies, as Unkrich said that the name has never been mentioned in previous Toy Story movies and won’t be used in Toy Story 3. Oh the mysteries of Hollywood, how I love thee.
