UPDATE: We're hearing that the IMAX post announcing the IMAX 3D Experience was, in fact, an error. The post has been removed from the official IMAX website. We'll let you know if anything changes, but in the meantime, sorry for the bad information. The original story is below.
Next week sees the release of The Dark Knight, the conclusion to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, but that won't be the end of the filmmaker's time in the world of comic book movies. Though he won't be involved with Warner Bros.' Justice League film, he is an executive producer on Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. His involvement with that project, however, has raised some questions about how the new Superman flick would be released. Nolan, of course, has long been a proponent of IMAX over 3D, but there were no reports during production that Snyder was using either technology. So what's it going to be? Apparently a mix of both. The official IMAX website (via CBM) has updated their website and lists Man of Steel as an "IMAX 3D Experience." The release date for the movie, June 14, 2014, is the same as the official day from Warner Bros. Because the film wasn't shot in either 3D or IMAX, this means that it will be converted for both formats. Here is the official blurb from the site:
Snyder has experience with 3D, both native and post-converted. His 2010 animated movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole was made entirely in 3D and while Sucker Punch didn't end up expanding into the third dimension he did some tests prior to the movie's release. Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Laurence Fishburne, Russell Crowe, Harry Lennix and Christopher Meloni. Look for our coverage of the film's Comic Con panel this Saturday (and stay tuned Wednesday to see Man of Steel images on the official tote bags and whatever WB has in store for the convention floor!).
