John Goodman Boards Robert Zemeckis' Flight With Denzel Washington

There’s something about seeing John Goodman on television that brings a bit of balance to the universe. He recently started a supporting role as dominant Vice Dean Laybourne on NBC’s Community, giving us yet another reason to tune into the hilarious sitcom every Thursday. And even better news – Goodman’s TV gigs don’t seem to be interfering with his ability to land choice movie roles. It’s a win-win for Goodman fans, all around.

Deadline reports that Goodman has been added to Robert ZemeckisFlight, a drama starring Denzel Washington as a pilot who helps avert a deadly crash, only to face scrutiny when it comes into question whether he was under the influence of illegal substances at the time of the flight. Goodman, according to the report, would play Washington’s close friend and support system through the trying times. Flight is getting off of the ground with a top-notch ensemble, as Zemeckis already has lured Don Cheadle, Bruce Greenwood and Brian Geraghty for key supporting roles. In addition to the great cast, I'm just intrigued by Zemeckis returning to live-action drama after his long pit-stop in the land of mo-cap animation. I'm anticipating Flight for that reason above any other.

Can’t get enough Goodman? Boy, are you in luck. The actor currently can be seen in Kevin Smith’s Red State. He also has two films heading to theaters before the end of the year in Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist and Stephen Daldry’s anticipated Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close opposite Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock. He’s currently shooting Ben Affleck’s third directorial effort, Argo, with Kyle Chandler, Bryan Cranston and Alan Arkin. And Goodman will be heard in such animated features as Happy Feet Two, ParaNorman, and the Pixar prequel, Monsters University.
