If you aren’t familiar with Saturday Night Live, you must be new to this planet (in that case, welcome to earth!). The comedy series has been airing for decades. Each episode features various comedic sketches, a celebrity host and a guest band/musician. There’s also a comedy news segment in which the anchors poke fun at all of the news and pop-culture highlights that took place over the week.

When the new season resumes, Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps is set to host the season premiere. Lil Wayne will perform as the season premiere’s musical guest.


SNL is one of those shows that I don’t watch regularly anymore. I do like to check out some of the sketches and digital shorts on NBC’s website and hulu.com but unlike I did back in the ‘90’s, I just don’t tune in every week like I used to. I don’t know if the show is just going through a slump or if I’m just not into it as much anymore. Michael Phelps is hosting for the premiere and I’ve always thought that athlete-hosts were kind of a mixed bag. I remember years ago when Nancy Kerrigan hosted and the whole episode was really awkward. But I loved watching Phelps win his eight medals this summer and I guess I’m kind of curious to see how he does in the funny department.
