The DVD Blend Is Marshall

Each week DVDs come out. Some of them are worth your time and money and some aren't. Some of them are movies I've seen, and some of them aren’t. Regardless, I give you my opinion on the big releases of the week. If the releases sound like something you want to buy, just click the link to go to Amazon.com and you’ll support Cinema Blend with a few pennies. Take it or leave it, here's the DVD Blend.

Cinema Blend Pick of the Week:

We Are Marshall

Let’s be honest: We Are Marshall pretty much has an easy time getting an audience, so it doesn’t really need to be our pick of the week. After all, it’s a sports movie, which has a built in audience, and it’s about a memorable moment in the history of Marshall University, which also gives it a built in audience. It stars Matthew McConaughey, which brings in the women to see the movie, and Matthew Fox, who brings in the women who were too interested in Lost to notice McCanaughey. Pretty much McG would have had to make a disaster of Uwe Boll proportions to ruin his chance at a successful film, and that is something he doesn’t do. The DVD does what a good historical tale should do by delving into the factual framework of the movie. In fact, don’t look for any making-of the movie special features here, but this is still better than a DVD release that features less than half of what you paid to see in theaters.

Worth mentioning:
Row 1 - Cell 0 Boston Legal: Season 3 - I’ve never been a big one for legal dramas, but Boston Legal surpasses that bias with excellent storylines, well formed characters, and some of the best quirky comedy you’ll find on the air today. Definitely worth a look and a lot of fun to run for hours on DVD.Row 1 - Cell 2 Half of Grindhouse - I don’t care what the official title of the DVD is (Grindhouse presents Death Proof) the truth is you’re buying half of a vision if you pick this up. Gone are the commercials and the “missing reel” that gave this the Grindhouse flavor, but you’re supposed to be happy about it. Sucker.
