For fans waiting to get their hands on Naughty Dog’s latest creation, The Last of Us, the game’s May 7 release date probably still feels like a long ways off. Thankfully, the developer has now announced that every copy of God of War: Ascension will grant access to an upcoming demo for The Last of Us, meaning you’ll only have to wait until March or so to at least get a small sampling of the game.

In The Last of Us, players will follow Joel and Ellie across the U.S. following a deadly pandemic. Years ago, a fungal outbreak turned most of the world’s population into crazed killers, effectively bringing about the end of normal life as we know it. Now society has fallen into shambles and all Joel and Ellie want to do is survive: Survive from both the infected monsters and their fellow survivors who would sooner kill you or rob you blind than offer you a spot by the fire.

Announced via the PlayStation Blog, it looks like the fastest way to take post-apocalyptic The Last of Us for a spin will be to dive into Kratos’ latest adventure in God of War: Ascension.

“We teamed up with the development crew at Santa Monica Studio to include access to a chapter of The Last of Us in every copy of God of War: Ascension, so you won’t have to wait too long to get your hands on two of the biggest games of the year,” said Naughty Dog Community Strategist Eric Monacelli. “Just load the God of War disc into your PS3 and find The Last of Us listing on the main menu. There, you’ll find details on how you can obtain The Last of Us demo for free as soon as it becomes available.”

So, it looks like the demo won’t necessarily go live once God of War releases on March 12. However, whenever said demo is ready to roll, those who have their copy of God of War will be able to download it before anyone else. After that, all you have to do is wait until May 7 to play the full game.
