For the soundtrack of The Last Of Us, Naughty Dog enlisted composer Gustavo Santaolalla. Santaolalla is an Academy Award winner who is working on a video game for the first time.

In The Last Of Us, the world's population has been devastated by a fungal outbreak. The outbreak has turned many into mindless mutants. The uninfected survivors live under harsh rule in quarantine zones. An unlikely pair - a black market dealer and a teenage girl - escape one of these zones in an attempt to reach a safe haven.

"We are honored to have Gustavo’s music and talents in our game," Naughty Dog's Eric Monacelli said on the PlayStation.Blog. "The texture of Gustavo’s musical score serves the game’s narrative and the music is rife with poignant, descriptive and intimate sounds. His work is unlike anything heard in a video game before. It’s a beautiful, haunting, sonic landscape that makes the game’s themes more emotionally resonant and emphasizes thoughtfully how Joel, Ellie, and all the characters in the game perceive the world around them. It’s a masterful musical score."

A digital version of the soundtrack is included in the Sights and Sounds Pack, free for pre-order customers. You can also purchase it separately on CD.

The Last Of Us will launch on June 14th exclusively on PS3.
