Writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Webber have certainly kept busy since the release of their first produced project, the indie hit (500) Days of Summer. After scripting the sequel The Pink Panther 2 the pair went on to create the short lived series Friends With Benefits and this year will see the release of their next film, an adaptation of the Tim Tharp novel The Spectacular Now. And now they're set to tackle their next project, a new film based on the book Where'd You Go, Bernadette?
Already a best seller despite only hitting bookshelves on December 21st, the story, based on the book by Maria Semple, follows a husband and daughter team who go on the hunt for their missing wife/mother, " a once-famous Los Angeles architect-turned-recluse" who one day suddenly disappears. The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news about the developing project, says that Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures (Lawless, The Master, Zero Dark Thirty and Killing Them Softly) is backing the project along with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson's Color Force (The Hunger Games).
Said Jacobson in a statement about the project, "It is so rare to find a book that is as original as it is moving and whose storytelling is as innovative as its characters are rich. I'm very grateful to be collaborating with Megan Ellison to bring Maria's extraordinary book to the screen. We are off to a great start with Neustadter and Weber, whose voices and creative agility make them a perfect match for Bernadette."
A director has not yet been hired for the project and the trade doesn't mention when production could begin on the project.
