Bret McKenzie Confirmed For A Role In The Hobbit

Last year on April Fools Day, the story came out that Joss Whedon was in negotiations to direct Marvel's ultimate superhero movie, The Avengers. Because of Whedon's limited number of titles in the "directing" portion of his resume, many were skeptical if the news was true. Of course, now we know that the news was indeed factual.
This year, the high profile "is it true?" story of April Fools Day came out when it was rumored that Bret McKenzie, star of the HBO series Flight of the Chonchords, was offered a role in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. Turns out that the story was true.
Variety has confirmed the story and is now reporting that McKenzie will now be a part of the production, which is currently filming in New Zealand. According to the story, the actor will play Lindir, an Elf of Rivendell. McKenzie actually had a role in the first and third of Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy as an extra, named Figwit by fans.
I must say that this is a pretty cool story. The McKenzie cameo is a cool little Easter Egg for fans and now it is officially being celebrated. This is the exact kind of moves that fans love, and I must say that I approve. It's just too bad he's not playing a character named Figwit.
