Cameron's Next Movie Already Being Animated

Given how long it has taken Avatar to get going, and that it may still be delayed before we see it, I figured it'd be at least another 5 years before we saw another James Cameron project in theaters. But his 3D-animated adaptation of Battle Angel Alita, a Japanese manga series, has apparently already gone through production design and development, according to one of the movie's designers and artist's, Mark Goerner.

Market Saw, a blog dedicated to all things 3D movies, sat down with Goerner to talk a lot of details about Battle Angel, which he has finished working on after a year and a half-- "Honestly, [Cameron] is one of the smartest and most resourceful people I've met," he told them.

Much of the interview gets into the nitty-gritty details of computer animation, but the way moviemaking is going these days, we all may as well start learning about it. No telling when Battle Angel will be finished-- you know how long it can take animated movies to wrap up-- but given the amount of work Goerner has put into the movie and his confidence in the project, it won't just be disappearing any time soon.
