Cheer Up, Emo Boy!

I enjoying laughing at emo kids as much as the next person-- seriously, what's got you so down?-- but color me surprised that one of them was actually the star of his own comic book. The series Emo Boy, by Stephen Edmond, is heading for its own movie adaptation by Vanguard Films.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Edmond will also write the film's screenplay, with Fanboys director Kyle Newman in charge. That one detail should be enough to get fans on board-- Newman has been struggling for years to get that movie, a tribute to Star Wars fans, released in theaters. If anyone is likely to remain true to the geek credentials of the comic book, it's Newman. THR describes the comic as following "the travails of the most self-dramatizing young man in the history of the world, whose emotions were so intense he even had "emo powers." Sounds kinda neat-- but, y'know, a bit too emo for me.
