We’re already pretty sold on Django Unchained: Quentin Tarantino making a Spaghetti western, a vengeance opera with Leonardo DiCaprio ditching his movie-star façade to play a vicious, slave-owning plantation demon? Yeah, we’re pretty much on board with all of that. And so, The Weinstein Company doesn’t have to do too much but simply mark places on the mainstream attention span to keep letting people know that Django Unchained is coming to theaters on Christmas Day. Open your presents, hug your family members, chug some eggnog, and head to see Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz hunting racists in the Old South.
Tarantino’s three leads are featured in the latest Django poster, which is brought to us courtesy of Yahoo Movies!:
It’s kind of a good thing that Weinstein already helped sell us on Django with early trailers and cast photos, because this poster effort is pretty bland. The tagline isn’t very fresh, and the idea of Photoshopped leads posing for a camera doesn’t do much to excite about Django. Particularly when you already had a shocking, bare concept poster that suggested a lynching. Now that’s how you grab someone’s attention for the new Tarantino joint!
Alas, this likely will be the Django poster you see hanging, safely, on the walls of area multiplexes as Weinstein attempts to tease Tarantino’s sure-to-be-controversial drama to a larger audience beyond the director’s satisfied base. Django Unchained will begin screening for critics’ groups soon. It opens everywhere on Christmas Day.
