First Look At Anthony Hopkins As A Dead Ringer For Alfred Hitchcock

While it's hard to imagine a movie about the making of Psycho could ever be as interesting as the movie itself, Sacha Gervasi's recently retitled Hitchcock has a lot going in its favor, namely the dynamite cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Toni Collette, Helen Mirren, James D'Arcy and, OK, Jessica Biel. Topping them all, though, is Anthony Hopkins, who is on board to play Hitch himself, and who recently revealed his commitment to the character with a first-look image that shows just how impressive an actor's transformation can be. Take a look at the image below, via People.

That's a pretty impressive getup, especially when you consider that Hopkins's normal face doesn't really make him look anything like Hitchcock. It's hard to know how the effect will work in the actual film, but it doesn't seem like they're really going for physical resemblance anyway-- how else can you explain how Scarlett Johansson gets cast as Janet Leigh? Hopkins can undoubtedly bring the right gravitas to the role of Hitch, though, and that's really all we need to be looking for-- though the ability to step into that famous profile won't hurt either.

It seems that Hitchcock will be telling a fairly sprawling story about all the people working behind the scenes of the film, so despite the title it's not just going to be Hopkins's show. So if that's the case, are they going to release images of everyone in character? Are we going to see Johansson repeating the famous shower scene? Or is this image just out there to prove they're doing a good job with it, and encourage us to leave them alone until the film is wrapped? My guess is the latter, but keep your eyes peeled for new images just in case.
