Garner Game For Alias Movie

It’s almost amazing that so much time has ended since the end of Alias as a series and the beginning rumblings of a possible movie adaptation. I can’t help but wonder if that isn’t a sign of just how much of its fanbase the show lost as it wound through several weird storylines that suspended disbelief too far, even for a spy show. Apparently the rumors are out there, however, because Latino Review broached the subject while they were interviewing Jennifer Garner for her upcoming film The Kingdom.

The actress stated that she too had heard rumors about reviving the series in movie form, but Garner is only willing to don the tights and pink wig again if series creator J.J. Abrams was behind it: If J.J. [Abrams] were writing it and directing it? Then absolutely, we’d all sign on. It’s all in his crazy brain.

Despite practically jumping at the chance if Abrams gives the word, Garner says he hasn’t mentioned anything about doing a movie version of Alias. That’s certainly not too surprising considering everything else he has going on. First he got to play spy with Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible: III, there’s that Star Trek project he’s pulling together right now, and of course there’s the evasive “Cloverfield” project, which isn’t actually Abrams’ baby, although there is evidence that he’s been involved with the trailer at the very least.

So, Garner might jump at the chance to play super-spy Sidney Bristow again, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for an adaptation to happen anytime soon. Without Abrams involved, I’m not sure anyone would want to see it anyway… and frankly, considering the lukewarm reception of the show by the end of the series, I’m not sure too many people would want to see it with him involved either.
