Green Lantern Ready For Spring

It looks like Warner Bros. Green Lantern solo movie may be further along than a lot of people suspected. No, they still haven’t found a lead, but according to the guys at First Showing the film will be ready to start shooting by as early as next spring.

There are several script reviews out there detailing the plot, but in short it’s another origin story. Though we’re all getting a little sick of those, I suppose there’s no way around it. The movie will focus on Hal Jordan. In the comics, Hal is actually the second person to take up the ring of the Green Lantern. In the script that’s currently making the rounds, it sounds like fairly standard stuff. Hal is a guy with problems, and some sort of mental block or fear he has to get over. He gets super powers, in this case courtesy of some aliens, and becomes a hero.

No word on who they’re casting in the part yet. David Boreanaz was rumored at one point, which might have been interesting, but odds are that the WB is going the boring route of casting a big name. They’ve been scared off the no-name casting tactic by the perceived (and incorrect) failure of Superman Returns. With the movie filming in a matter of months, I suspect we’ll hear a lot more on the casting front, most of it probably faked by British newspapers, in the weeks to come.
