The Hobbit Meets The Goonies In This Clever Mashup

In just a matter of weeks, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will arrive in theaters, bringing the first installment of Peter Jackson's new trilogy, based on Tolkien's novel, to the big screen. Anticipation for the film might cause people to revisit the Lord of the Rings films, or if you're like one fan, you might mash The Hobbit and The Goonies with a trailer that combines both adventures.

Just as Bilbo Baggins is about to embark upon a daring adventure, Mikey and his friends did the same when they decided to search for One-eyed Willie's treasure in the 1985 movie. YouTube user Lance Ford posted the trailer below, which mashes the story of The Hobbit (and audio from the film) with video from The Goonies. See what happens when the Goon Docks and Middle Earth collide...

It looks like Sloth has been cast in the role of Gollum, which I guess makes the Baby Ruth be the Precious, right? Points for clever editing and working some classic Goonies moments into the video. And it's worth pointing out the loose but notable link between the two stories, beyond the adventure element, and that's Sean Astin, who played Mikey in The Goonies and also played the role of Frodo's trusted friend Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings films.

For those of us who have already recently rewatched all there Lord of the Rings films in anticipation of the release of The Hobbit, perhaps a re-watch of The Goonies is in order. Anything to entertain our minds while we wait for the next Middle Earth adventure to begin!
