Prom Sways Onto Blu-Ray And DVD In August, Could Start A Trend With Download Release

If there’s a reason to watch Disney’s Prom, it isn’t for the nostalgia the film desperately tries to evoke. It isn’t for Thomas McDonnell’s perfectly groomed grunge hair, either. It’s because the pre and post fire decorations in Prom rock out. No Michigan school could have put something together as professionally as Prom’s Nova Prescott (Aimee Teegarden) can. I know this because I went to high school in Michigan. Also because my high school prom’s decorations were pretty similar to those at the opposing high school our protagonist pokes fun at. Even though it was ardently decorated, I still say Disney’s Prom was unsuccessful. No duo showed up in powder blue and orange Lloyd and Harry suits.

If you haven’t caught a glimpse of what high school is not really all about, Prom hits DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital download on August 30. I know it’s kind of weird to begin a school year by watching a film about ending a school year, but apparently, getting the timing together on the theatrical release was more important (though, the box office doesn’t really reflect the idea’s success).

If you are going to purchase a copy of Prom, springing for the Blu-Ray is a good route to travel. Not only will you get the bloopers segment and the “Making of” featurette available with the DVD, buyers of the Blu-Ray will also gain seven music videos, four deleted scenes, and an exclusive short. What makes the Prom release legitimately interesting is the inclusion of several music videos plus the DVD extras if you decide to go the way of the movie download. Historically, download purchases have been cheaper, but have lacked in the extras department. As a way to make money, Disney is giving this new, more expensive format a try. I’m not certain Prom is the best picture to invest in if interested in extras with a movie download, but it’s still nice to have the option.
