The Super Bowl arguably isn’t a proper spot for a remake of a Jane Austen novel, but a preview for José Padilha’s upcoming RoboCop remake fits a bit more snugly.
Lost in the shuffle of Transformers and superhero ads was a new clip for the upcoming RoboCop reboot, so we are bringing it to your attention once again... mainly because it looks much better than people are giving it credit for.
Bullets are something that quarterbacks throw, and they’re also what Joel Kinnaman’s RoboCop shoots into the heads and guts of bad guys and fellow members of the robotic police force that aren’t capable of moral thoughts. Plus, the actioner boasts almost as many familiar names as the NFL’s top two teams, with Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson and more bringing OmniCorp’s version of Alex Murphy to new audiences.
The next generation of RoboCop trailer says that next generation fire can only be fought with a more violent iteration of that fire. Enter the neck-snapping red-eyelined hero who will save Detroit from itself. This preview gives us exactly what one wants from this kind of film: ass whippings, vehicles flying all over the place, and explosions. It’s going to be a sad day if all of OmniCorp’s employees fall at the cyborgian hands of RoboCop, but if those things happen in the middle of a great movie, it’ll help soften the PG-13 blow.
