Harmony Korine is a polarizing filmmaker. He's been a recurring presence on the film festival circuit since his directorial debut Gummo premiered at Telluride in 1997. His second narrative feature, Mister Lonely, debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, then two years later Trash Humpers premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Yet critics are largely turned off by Korine's unpredictable and fringe sensibilities, while most moviegoers are totally unaware of this daring director.

Enter Spring Breakers. With a cast that includes former Disney stars Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez, as well as James Franco, Korine's upcoming crime drama would seem to have the biggest mass-market appeal yet. On top of its stars, the promotional campaign has been shamelessly selling sex and skin with its posters and violence and decadence with its red-band trailer. Whether you can't get enough of Korine or you just want to know more about this TIFF pick that has critics howling, you should enjoy this behind-the-scenes featurette that gives a peak into the world of Spring Breakers and show's the curious auteur in action.

Written and directed by Korine, Spring Breakers centers on four college girls (the aforementioned Hudgens and Gomez, as well as Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine). Dreaming of a Spring Break vacation they'll never forget, these bosom buddies rob a restaurant to fun their trip, but land in jail. Sprung by a drug and arms dealer (Franco), they have a second shot at Spring Break glory, but first there's some dirty work to do.

Spring Breakers opens in limited release on March 15th; a wider release will follow on March 22nd.
