Summer Returns Again

As we keep saying, Hollywood seems insistent on proving there is no creativity left in the dream factory. Most of the good, imaginative movies these days tend to come from independents, while the big studios and superpowers seem content to remake and rehash old plots and ideas.

The latest idea to come down the pike is a second sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer. This film, which would be the third movie in the franchise, is tentatively titled I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. That stretch of a name isn’t the worst news about this film though.

This sequel won’t have anything to do with the prior two films, which focused on a haunting accident in the past of Jennifer Love Hewitt. Despite being another movie in a franchise, I’ll Always Know... will start the story over again, with four new teens who are tormented a year after a fourth of July prank kills one of their friends. Similar plot, but nothing to do with the original movie. Doesn’t that make this more of a remake than a continuation of the franchise?

I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer is slated to be directed by Damon Santostefano (Three to Tango) based on a script by Michael Weiss and is expected to have a Fall ‘06 release.
