British artist, illustrator and 3D animator Kyle Lambert creates impressive pictures on his iPad. (His Heath Ledger, in character for The Dark Knight, is one of my favorites.) His latest creation is a digital “transformation” of actress Rooney Mara into goth cyber-hacker Lisbeth Salander from David Fincher’s upcoming adaptation, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. His process was uploaded to YouTube, and you can check it out below:
It’s more of a commercial for Lambert’s artistic technique than for Fincher’s thriller (in fact, he plugs limited edition prints being available on the Web site LisbethSalander.com). It’s also a bona fide ad for the iPad, as people in the comments section below the video have said how surprised they were you could actually create a visual like this on the device.
I, personally, am looking forward to seeing and hearing Fincher’s own thoughts on his actress’s transformation in eventual behind-the-scenes featurettes that will come out with his Dragon Tattoo once its reaches home video. There’s plenty of material for Fincher and Mara to lean on – from the original novel to the Swedish film – and I’d like to know what they wanted to embrace (and what they chose to avoid) when building their version of the character. Before then, Sony plans to release the American adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s best-selling novel in theaters, unleashing this frigid beast on Dec. 21 – just in time for the holidays.
