Web Aid: Stimulating The Internet's Package

Times are tough all over and the internet, like everything else, has been hit hard. While Obama plays Monopoly with America’s failing companies we’ve decided to stand up and do our part to push the refresh button on the world’s dwindling supply of beer money by taking a different tact and sending weekly CB stimulus to the places that most deserve it. We’re calling it Web Aid, and it’s our way of helping you filter the internet’s best movie geek friendly content outside of Cinema Blend. Maybe GM deserved to fail, but these internet items deserve your eyeballs. Keep the best of the internets from being de-rezzed with your clicks:

Roger Ebert's weekly journal entries are always a good read, but this one in particular is worth your time if you're at all interested in not being ripped off. A few weeks ago comedian Aziz Ansari began a crusade against the IMAX company, which has started slapping the IMAX name on screens which aren't actually IMAX as a way of jacking up the prices and sucking more money out of consumers. Ebert goes in depth on what the hell is IMAX thinking, and if you're at all interested in the nuts and bolts of watching movies then this one's a must read. Ebert knows a thing or two about projectors… and soda pop.

I'm never the first to jump on a bandwagon and in the case of Blu-Ray I may be the last. At first I resisted going Blu-Ray because I didn't want to end up stranded by a format war. Now the war's over, and I'm still resisting, more out of habit than anything. Blu-Ray hasn't exactly exploded out of the gate, so I know I'm not alone. Should you finally give in and buy into the format, here's a great way to get started with this list of the 10 Blu-Rays you should buy first.

The latest episode of the JoBlo Movie Show is up, and as always features babes, booze and oh yeah, some movie shit too. But mostly babes and boobs. Tune in for a video tribute to Alien, 5 bad drunk moments, and snakes on a submarine. Also some guy with a beard gets in a bitch fight with Justin Long. I always bet on the beard. Watch:

I grew up spending my weekends playing Risk and Axis & Allies which, contrary to the popular, lonely, basement dweller stereotype is actually a great way to hang out with your friends. It is not however, such a great way to meet girls. Luckily, I'm old and married which means I'm now free to re-indulge in the geekiest of geeky past times without worrying about what girls think. Fanboy recommends 3 must-have, geeky board games and at least one of them boasts a picture of Admiral Adama.

Tru Blood returns to television this weekend, and just in time. With nothing else worth watching on, I was afraid I'd have to sit through Wipeout. Pop Candy's Whitney Matheson is taking questions from readers to ask in an upcoming interview with Stephen Moyer, who plays the lovesick vampire Bill Compton on the show. So if you've been wondering what Anna Paquin's blood tastes like, now's the time to find out… and then do us all a favor and turn yourself into the police.

While we sit on our asses thinking about what's coming out next week, Moviehole's Clint is already thinking ahead to 2010. His weekly Caffeinated Clint column is a must read anyway, but this one in particular is worth your time if you're sick of McG and want to look forward to potentially better times with movies like Ghostbusters 3 and The A-Team. Personally, I'm all about Toy Story 3. Pixar owns my soul. They got it cheap.

You never know when Kevin Smith will run off to make another movie, leaving his podcast followers in the middle of another unbearable Smodfast, so I'm always on the lookout for new audio broadcasting that's worth my time. I tuned into the Rotcast for the first time during their debut episode several months ago and in a completely unfair mental lapse I judged their broadcast based entirely on that initial attempt. Of course since then, they've gotten the hang of this podcasting thing and they're kicking ass. This week I checked back in to the Rotcast for their 42nd episode, and got hooked. Load up your iPod.

Director Robert Luketic is in the midst of filming his next movie, Five Killers, and he's also a total Twitter addict. Tune into his twitter feed for updates from the set, and the occasional video featuring Tom Selleck.
