Typically, the MTV Video Music Awards broadcast from Los Angeles or Manhattan, with the occasional trip to other exciting cities like Vegas or Miami during certain years. This year, the iconic Moonman is Brooklyn bound! MTV celebrated the announcement of their plans to celebrate the MTV Movie Awards' 30th anniversary in Brooklyn by sharing photos of the statue's journey from Los Angeles to the East Coast.

The MTV Video Music Awards celebrate some of the past year's most popular music, and has been known to feature an unpredictable moment or two as rock stars and pop artists convene to celebrate each others' work and perform live. Not only is this the Moonman's first trip to Brooklyn, but it's also the first time any major award ceremony has taken place in the borough. the 2013 Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from Barclays Center on Sunday, August 25. The Barclays center is the home of the NY Nets and the future home of the NY Islanders.
“From a vibrant musical scene for up and coming artists to epic concerts by today's biggest stars and the triumphant return of pro sports to the borough after nearly 60 years, Brooklyn has re-emerged as a cultural capitol where music, sports and entertainment history is made every day,” said Stephen Friedman, President of MTV. “We can’t wait to help write the next chapter on August 25th, when one of the biggest nights in music happens in Brooklyn… for the very first time.”

MTV's next big award show is the MTV Movie Awards, which are set to air live from the Sony Pictures Studios lot in los Angeles on April 14. Read the full list of nominees for that here.

Along with their announcement that this summer's VMA's will broadcast from Brooklyn, MTV shared some photos of the Moonman's trip from Los Angeles to Queens' JFK airport, a stop too Manhattan and then over the Brooklyn Bridge and on to the Barclays Center!
