Conchord's Flight Puns Its Way Into HBO's Heart

Let’s be honest, you’ve probably never heard of Flight Of The Conchords. I know this because I’ve never heard of this folk duo, and if there’s one thing this author knows, it’s comedic folk duos. In an effort to bring you an honest review, I have scoured YouTube and watched several clips (more than 1!) of this twosome. Actually, they’re pretty decent. From my limited exposure (more than 1 YouTube clip!), I would describe them as a somewhat muted and understated Tenacious D. HBO executives also seem to like this New Zealand export.

According to sources in the know (or an HBO press release), the movie pay channel has picked up a weekly series featuring Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie (that’s F.O.T.C., for those of you who haven’t seen more than 1 YouTube clip!). The general plotline will follow the two aspiring musicians as they hole up in a one block comfort zone interacting with random comedians making cameos. Rumor has it that the New Zealand consulate will also be involved in some capacity.

I’m actually looking forward to the June 17th premiere. If nothing else this show will be original. Expect lots of bizarre almost Andy Kaufman-esque subtle humor and a nice Sunday night companion to ‘Entourage.’ I should know what to expect (After all, I have seen over 1 YouTube clip!).
