First Elimination For Next Iron Chef

You might have been too busy watching Family Guy or Desperate Housewives to catch the series debut of the Food Network’s new reality competition, Next Iron Chef. This new series features eight established chefs duking it out in the kitchen in the hopes of winning the role as the new Iron Chef. Last night, during the series premiere, the first competitor was eliminated.

The first to be cut was Traci Des Jardins, executive chef and co-owner of Jardinière, Mijita and Acme Chophouse in San Francisco, California. This leaves only one other woman in contention for the prize. Next Sunday, the remaining seven contestants will have to put something together that sums up their culinary style and personality in a single bite. Afterwards, Wiley Dufresne will show up to teach them how to blend science, art and cooking and the contestants will then have to impress the judges using fancy powders, compounds and high-tech gadgets.

As was mentioned earlier, whoever wins this competition will go on to be the next Iron Chef. They’ll take over Mario Batali’s role on Iron Chef America, starting with a special Thanksgiving-themed episode, set to air on Sunday, November 11th at 9:00 p.m.

Next Iron Chef airs on Sunday nights at 9 pm on The Food Network. For more information on this new series, check out The Food Network’s website.
