Fox Pushes I Hate My Teenage Daughter's Series Premiere Back A Week

Fox’s upcoming comedy series I Hate My Teenage Daughter is inching closer and closer to 2012. The network announced today that the series, which was already set to premiere in late November, has been pushed back a week, possibly due to Thanksgiving.

I Hate My Teenage Daughter will star Jaime Pressy and Katie Finneran as two mothers of teens who begin to discover that pampering their daughters for years may have turned them into “mean girls.”

Fox sent word today that the comedy is now set to debut on Wednesday, November 30 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) after The X Factor. The network didn’t specify why they were moving the premiere back a week from November 23rd, however, Deadline reports that they hear the choice to adjust the schedule was due to concerns that people would be too busy traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday to tune in.

This is not to say that Deadline is wrong here, but it seems odd that Fox would schedule the show to premiere the night before Thanksgiving and then change their mind because of the holiday. Thanksgiving’s a pretty set holiday, taking place on the fourth Thursday of November (in the U.S.) every year. It’s possible that was an oversight on the part of whoever's in charge of scheduling things at Fox. If I had to guess the reason, I’d say that Fox thought a post-X Factor premiere spot would be more favorable for the show in terms of drawing in a bigger crowd (Update: Scrap that theory, it looks like X Factor is on the schedule for 11/23). Or, perhaps the series needs a bit more time and isn’t going to be ready by the 23rd. Either way, the late-November start isn’t great thing for TV, given it’s close proximity to the holidays and the hiatus between the fall and midseason. At this rate, IHMTD might be better off being pushed off to Midseason 2012.
