Netflix’s highly anticipated original series, House of Cards, executive produced by David Fincher and Kevin Spacey—who also takes a lead role in the series—is finally, awesomely gearing up to hit homes this week. Netflix has been great about releasing promos for Beau Willimon’s series, which have often focused on tantalizing visions of sex and power. Regardless, with the newest promo, there’s more focus on the intangibles of complicated relationships.

Called “Lift the Veil,” the new clip takes a look at all of the variables of the political spectrum, from journalists to secretaries, and from politicians to wives. In the clip, Representative Frank Underwood (Spacey) and his wife Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) are both vying for power. Affairs are teased and ethical lines are sometimes noted but often crossed. There should be little doubt that Spacey will be good in House of Cards, but from the looks of the trailer, the ensemble cast looks like it will be compelling, as well. We’ll see if the tagline “bad, for the greater good” lives up to its promises.

As part of Netflix’s strategy to move away from standard television formatting, all 13 episodes of House of Cards will be available at once, beginning on February 1, 2013. If you don’t already have the capacity to stream Netflix, the service is offering a free trial for one month. You can read more about that on Netflix’s site, although if you aren't already a member of the service, you might want to consider holding out for that free trial when new episodes of Arrested Development become available.
