NBC Pulls Saving Hope: Last Two Episodes Can Be Seen Online

If you’re a fan of Saving Hope, you’ll have to go online to get the last two episodes of the season. NBC has pulled the show from the lineup, but plans to make the final episodes available on the web for those who are interested. The low ratings for the Canadian-produced series are likely behind the move, although it’s been renewed in Canada for Season 2.

NBC already moved the show to Saturday nights, and now they’re pretty much pulling the plug entirely. The move to the internet and the replacement of the final episodes with re-runs of America’s Got Talent certainly don’t bode well for the planned second season to show up on NBC in the future. Deadline says the show pulled in 2.5 million when it last aired, and it had been carrying low ratings all summer long, since it's premiere in June. NBC has apparently decided the ratings don't support finishing the season.

Saving Hope stars Erica Durance as a doctor whose husband is involved in an accident that leaves him in a coma . The coma results in an ongoing out-of-body experience for him, leaving him to roam the hospital in a sort of spirit form where his wife is fighting to save his life while doing her own job as a surgeon.

Entertainment One is behind the series, which was originally ordered by Canadian network CTV. It's hard to say why it didn’t do well in the U.S. - maybe because NBC didn’t give it much in the way of promotion. Summer is always a slow time for television, but I would think people would still prefer to see something new rather than re-runs, especially re-runs of a competition series. It seems NBC disagrees, however – or simply has given up on the summer and is turning its eyes towards fall.
