World Of Warcraft's Gnome Hunters Will Have Exclusive Pets

World of Warcraft's upcoming expansion Legion will let players finally create Gnome Hunters. Aside from looking awesome, Gnome Hunters will also have access to a new set of pets.

It's surprising that Blizzard took so long to allow Gnomes to be Hunters. They're an race known for their affinity to advanced technology so it only makes sense that they'd be wielding guns. It's possible that the nature aspect of the class is what kept Blizzard from enabling that class-race combo, though. Hunters are all about forming a connection with beasts of the wild, which isn't really gnomes' thing.

Blizzard figured out a way to make Gnome Hunters make more sense, though: Mechanical pets. Gnomes and fellow inventor race Goblins will have access to this new family of Hunter pets automatically. In the case of Gnomes, they'll start out with this Giant Mechanical Rabbit pet:

Hunters from other races can learn to control Mechanical pets as well. However, they'll need to acquire an item craftable by Engineers in order to do so.

Blizzard wants to make taming Mechanical pets into a unique process, too. After tracking these pets down, you'll be confronted with challenges that test your skill with Hunter's various abilities. Here's Blizzard's description of one such challenge:

For example, one rare mechanostrider requires you to create a special punch card that grants access to a closed section of Gnomeregan (we hope you remember the way). Once you locate the clockwork creature, you’ll then need to figure out how to overload its circuits. Solve the puzzle, and you’ll have this magnificent mechanized minion striding by your side.

You'll still need to feed these robotic companions. However, they don't eat normal food. You'll have to give them a Handful of Copper Bolts or some other kind of hi-tech bits.

Gnome Hunters seem to be the only new class-race combination announced for Legion thus far. If you're hoping for a Tauren Mage or a Draenei Warlock, you might need to wait until next expansion.

Legion is expected to arrive by next summer. The alpha test for the game went live earlier this week for a small pool of players.

This poll is no longer available.
