It's been over a year since Resident Evil: Extinction did well at the box office, but this is the first I'm hearing of plans for a fourth film in the video game adaptation series. Now JoBlo has their hands some information about the in-development film, from an anonymous but "VERY RELIABLE" source.
First they tell us that, once again, Paul W.S. Anderson will write the screenplay but not direct the film (he only directed the first film, and has since gone on to make classics like Death Race).Apparently the story is hearkening back to Resident Evil 2, "but with better dialogue" and a darker tone. Behind the scenes, there's enough action and special effects involved not only to hire a martial arts choreographer, but bring in Jurassic Park 3 veteran Michael Lantieri as an effects supervisor.
Given the critical response to the third Underworld film last weekend, maybe it really is possible for a tired franchise to find new life, regardless of how silly the whole premise has become. They're waiting to hire a director until Milla Jovovich signs back on; maybe her seal of approval will mean the project really is on the right track.
