As popular as they are, I don’t have much faith in the “vs.” line of movies. You shouldn’t blame me. So far they have been, at best, mediocre (Freddy vs. Jason) and at worst an unmitigated disaster (AvP: Alien vs. Predator).

Strangely, somehow that disaster earned a sequel and even stranger still it looks like AvP 2 might not be the horror the first film was. Part of that is the acceptance that both Alien and Predator franchises were R-rated before they were combined, so the combination should also be R-rated. However, this is a sequel – which means it’s going to build on the foundation of AvP, and the first look at that foundation has made its way online.

Spotlighted by Rope of Silicon, it appears3D Custom Foam has some maquettes online for the Alien/Predator hybrid creature we saw born at the tail end of AvP. I have to admit, these look pretty awesome; exactly what you’d expect if you combined the body types of the Alien and Predator creatures.

As we all know, you need more than cool ideas and neat looking beasties to make a good movie. Here’s hoping the movie lives up to these initial conceptual images. Take a look at the concept artwork at 3D Custom Foam.
