The Canyons, Starring Lindsay Lohan, Gets A New Grindhouse Trailer
In 2007 writer/directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez tried to bring back the classic drive-in grindhouse style with their movie Grindhouse. Sadly, this didn't turn out so great in terms of box office numbers, as the movie only managed to bring in $25 million during its 11 week run. But a cultural impact was definitely made.
There have been spin-offs, of sorts, such as Machete and Hobo With A Shotgun, and Rodriguez has already completed filming a Machete sequel, Machete Kills. Musicians have also taken a liking to the style, with bands like Queens of the Stone Age and The Black Keys using it for music videos like "3's and 7's" and "Howlin' For You," respectively. And now director Paul Schrader and writer Bret Easton Ellis have brought a touch of grindhouse to the advertising for their new film The Canyons.
Premiering over at the movie's official Facebook page, the trailer highlights stars Lindsay Lohan and James Deen, but doesn't really featyre any information about the plot. Check it out below or in HD over at the source.
Based on an original screenplay written by Ellis (Less Than Zero, American Psycho), the film is about young people in their 20s living dangerous lives of luxury in Los Angeles (you know, a Bret Easton Ellis story). Joiningg Lohan and Deen in the movie are Gus Van Sant, Nolan Gerard Funk and Amanda Brooks. Schrader is best known for writing Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver and last directed the war drama Adam Resurrected in 2008. The movie was largely funded through the site Kickstarter.com and doesn't currently have a distributor or a theatrical release date.
