Project X Star In Talks For Grown Ups 2
The R-rated ode to wild parties Project X has proved a winner for Warner Bros., pulling in an impressive $21 million in its opening weekend, which prompted talk of a sequel just days after its debut. And now the young stars of this frantic found footage flick have been launched. Already Thomas Mann has been offered roles in the buzzed about supernatural romance Beautiful Creatures as well as the Will Ferrell-produced coming-of-age comedy King Dork. And now, Mann's Project X co-star Oliver Cooper has entered into negotiations for a major role on the feature of another SNL alum.
THR reports the up and coming funnyman is in talks to join Columbia Pictures' Grown Ups 2, a sequel to Adam Sandler's wacky reunion comedy. Sandler and his frequent collaborator Jack Giarraputo will produce the film, which has Grown Ups director Dennis Dugan slated to helm. Sandler is also set to star, and much of Grown Ups' original ensemble are expected to return, including Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Maya Rudolph and Salma Hayek.
Though no plot details have yet been released, it's safe to assume that Grown Ups 2 will center on another group vacation stuffed with gross out humor and slapstick. For his part, Cooper will play a frat boy type, which doesn't sound too different from the rowdy instigator he portrayed in Project X. Still, this is a major step for Cooper, who made his feature film debut with Project X. With Grown Ups 2 he'll have the chance to share the screen comedy icons. It could prove a make or break moment.
