After dabbling in television with recurring roles in Weeds and Parenthood, Richard Dreyfuss is returning to film in full force. The Academy Award-winning actor who has appeared in more than 100 film and television shows is set to appear in four features in 2013, including the coming-of-age drama Very Good Girls, which stars Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen, and Jason Priestley's directorial feature film debut, the road trip comedy Cas & Dylan. With the last of these just recently wrapped, Dreyfuss is already moving on to another production.

Variety reports Killing Winston Jones stars Dreyfuss, Danny Masterson, Danny Glover and Job Heder, and rolls into production Monday in Savannah, Georgia. An independent dark comedy penned by Justin T. Winter, Killing Winston Jones focuses on a sixth grade English teacher (Masterson) on a quest to get a recently built junior high gymnasium named for his father in memorial…despite the fact his dad's not dead. Dreyfuss will pay Masterson's not-so-late father, and Glover will play a rival who has his own plans for the gymnasium's name. There's no mention of what role Heder will have.

The premise is perplexing, but you can get a sense from the casting and title that this will be one quirky comedy. Character actor Joel David Moore, who memorably played Norm in Avatar and previously co-helmed the thriller Spiral, will direct. As the first film to be mounted by Radioactive Giant, Killing Winston Jones will be a defining moment for the newly minted production-distribution company as well as its green director. But the filmmakers have collected a cast well suited to comedy, and so have a solid foundation on which to construct this off-kilter comedy.

Radioactive Giant will release the film theatrically and on multiple platforms worldwide.
