Crowe, who is also serving as Fathers and Daughters’ executive producer, will play a brain-marred novelist and widower trying to figure out how to raise a 5-year-old daughter in New York City in 1988. Twenty-five years later, Amanda Seyfried plays the grown-up daughter who is still trying to outlast the problems that comprised her tumultuous childhood, all while in a romance with Aaron Paul.
The story vacillates between his attempt at single-fatherhood following the death of his wife when Katie was just five years old, and her life as a thirty-year-old woman living in modern-day New York and struggling to overcome the scars of her past.
Crowe will star as a famous novelist living in Manhattan in the 1980s, suffering from mental illness after his wife’s death as he tries raising his 5-year-old daughter. The story will jump back and forth between this story and one of his daughter 25 years later as she deals with her own problems in modern day New York, struggling with problems that began in her youth.
