A&E announced they won't bother going through the pilot process with Bates Motel and instead opted to move ahead with a 10 episode order. The network first announced the prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's seminal slasher Psycho at the beginning of the year and with Lost's Carlton Cuse and Friday Night Light's Kelly Ehrin on board, the show is now going straight to series.

The films have all been digitally restored and remastered in 1080p, with DTS-HD Master Audio. In addition to the bonus features on each film, the set will also include a 50-page collectible book filled with "storyboards, costume sketches, correspondence, photographs, and much more." The set will list for $299.98, but you can pre-order a copy right now from Amazon.

It seems that Hitchcock will be telling a fairly sprawling story about all the people working behind the scenes of the film, so despite the title it's not just going to be Hopkins's show. So if that's the case, are they going to release images of everyone in character?

Deadline reports that Biel will play Vera Mills, the actress who starred as Lila Crane in Hitchcock’s masterpiece. Biel will join Scarlett Johansson (as Janet Leigh) and James D’Arcy (as Tony Perkins). In addition, Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren have been cast as the iconic director and his wife, Alma.

A&E has a couple of killer series in development – about killers, that is. The cable channel is working on a series based on the early life of Norman Bates, the crazed killer from the Hitchcock classic Psycho, as well as a series about a forensic psychiatrist hunting serial killers adapted from the hit Danish series Those Who Kill.
