American Horror Story Confirms A Cast Favorite Is Back For Season 6

So much about American Horror Story's upcoming season is still completely unknown to fans, which is just how Ryan Murphy and his creative team wants it to stay, apparently. But they can't keep all the information from our eyes and ears, dammit! So we are ever so grateful that the show's cast members have been largely open about their involvement when asked. The latest to confirm a role within Season 6? The Emmy-nominated Sarah Paulson.

At this point, Sarah Paulson has largely taken over for the long-gone Jessica Lange as the dependable core presence each season, and her absence would be at least a light tapping of a death knell for the anthology series. (Or maybe not. What do I know?) She announced her involvement with Season 6 at the TCA press event (via TVLine), and I bet you can guess exactly how much she shared as far as character details are concerned. If you held up a picture of a zero and then crumpled it up until it popped out of existence, that'd be close.

On another show, we might be able to offer up some sound conjecture on what Sarah Paulson could end up doing in her new role, but that's not the case here. But we've seen her play a psychic, an asylum-trapped journalist, a witch, a two-headed woman and a dead/undead heroin addict. So there's a good probability she won't be any of those things, unless we get to see her reprise an older role, as she did in Hotel. However it goes, I just want to see something as brutally effective as this.

The new approach for Season 6 is one of secret-keeping and slight of hand. While fans have normally long known about themes and characters at this point in the year, no details have been revealed at all about what to expect in September. In fact, FX president John Landgraf revealed earlier today that even the teasers that show has released so far have been scams, as only one teaser will legitimately center on the actual theme, while the others are just frauds. Don't be surprised if we have to wait until the show starts to learn what we're even watching.

But at least we know Paulson, who blew audiences away with her performance as Marcia Clark in The People v O.J. Simpson will be there. She joins a short list of actors who have all confirmed their own show obligations, though never with any character details. We know we'll see Lady Gaga again, as well as Angela Bassett, Cheyenne Jackson, Matt Bomer and Leslie Jordan.

American Horror Story Season 6 will debut in all its enigmatic glory on FX on Wednesday, September 14, at 10:00 p.m. ET. Check out our Season 6 guide to see everything else we can expect.
