E! Renews Chelsea Lately For Two More Seasons

Chelsea Handler’s been a busy lady of late. Between producing television programs, selling her Are You There, Chelsea script, writing books, and working on her E! talk show, Chelsea Lately, you would think something would have to give. Not so. Something did increase, though. Today, the comedian signed a deal that will return her to E! Entertainment for at least a few more years.

The new contract with E! is a double whammy of a good deal for Handler. Not only will she continue to host Chelsea Lately until at least 2014, Handler’s production company, Borderline Amazing Productions, will also produce some programs for E! and NBC Universal. Handler will retain the rights, along with Tom Brunelle, to continue executive producing Chelsea Lately and After Lately.

Chelsea Lately has been doing well recently. According to TV Line, on October 10th, the show posted its highest ratings ever hitting 1.8 million viewers during its hour long airing. E! President Suzanne Kolb had nothing but nice things to say about the partnership with Handler’s production company and the return of her show, today.

"Chelsea is an extraordinary talent whose smart, clever, no-holds-barred point of view has clearly been embraced by viewers. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Chelsea as we build on the success of Chelsea Lately.”

Handler seems to agree now is a good time for her to be working her funny bone on cable.

"It's a great time for women in comedy, and it's a great time to have real breasts."

I’d like to groan at that latter comment, but I am the person who cracked a joke about Pan Am guest star Ashley Greene and cockpits, earlier today. Now, Are You There, Chelsea with Laura Prepon just needs to do well and Handler’s year should be made.
