The DVD Blend Visits The Lake House

Each week DVDs come out. Some of them are worth your time and money and some aren't. Some of them are movies I've seen, and some of them aren’t. Regardless, I give you my opinion on the big releases of the week. If the releases sound like something you want to buy, just click the link to go to Amazon.com and you’ll support Cinema Blend with a few pennies. Take it or leave it, here's the DVD Blend.

Cinema Blend Pick of the Week:

The Lake House

Call me a sucker for romantic stories, but I love this movie. Sure its sappy, mawkish, and even a little bit predictable. At the same time it takes an idea like You’ve Got Mail and adds a new element to two people separated by distance (in this case time) that is fun to watch unravel. Part Mail part Sleepless in Seattle, the movie probably would have been served well by having Tom Hanks in the lead role instead of Keanu Reeves, but the Matrix star actually does quite well making The Lake House an enjoyable, romantic movie (if not a little brainless) to watch.

Worth mentioning:
Row 1 - Cell 0 The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift - Speaking of brainless movies, I found this one to be quite a bit of fun. I don’t know how well it’ll translate to the smaller screen, but if you have a kickin’ sound system its still bound to be pretty impressive. If nothing else, check it out for the last five minutes.Row 1 - Cell 2 The Notorious Betty Page - Gretchen Mol embodies the spirit of the famous pin up girl in a movie that looks at how the beloved icon came to be; from her efforts to become an actress to her fame as one of the most notable (and accepted) images of bondage and S&M around.
