This DVD Blend Is Not Yet Rated

Each week DVDs come out. Some of them are worth your time and money and some aren't. Some of them are movies I've seen, and some of them aren’t. Regardless, I give you my opinion on the big releases of the week. If the releases sound like something you want to buy, just click the link to go to Amazon.com and you’ll support Cinema Blend with a few pennies. Take it or leave it, here's the DVD Blend.

Cinema Blend Pick of the Week:

This Film Is Not Yet Rated

This Film Is Not Yet Rated stands as one of the best documentaries I’ve seen. Why, you ask? Because it exposes a previously hidden element of Hollywood business – just how movies get their ratings. It turns out the system is nowhere near as consistent or clear as you might think, which is exposed through conversations with filmmakers who have had to go to the mat to defend their movie. At the same time the film attempts to unmask the secret people who make up the ratings board. If you missed the news, the MPAA is getting ready to change the way it rates films, moving to a more public and open system. There’s no doubt this film is partially responsible for that change. The DVD adds on some deleted footage that was deleted from the theatrical cut and a commentary with documentarian Kirby Dick. If you like movies and want to know more about what goes on behind the scenes, this is definitely worth a look for you.

Worth mentioning:
Row 1 - Cell 0 Jesus Camp - Speaking of mind-altering documentaries that have made a difference, this one exposes the quasi-brainwashing approach of an evangelical Christian camp. The movie has been praised for attempting a rather neutral approach towards a highly controversial subject, although that subject is likely to offend based on faith rather than the film itself.Row 1 - Cell 2 The Invincible Iron Man - I’m not saying Marvel’s animated films have been works of art so far, but they are entertaining. Besides, in a week where my other picks are somewhat controversial documentaries, I have to provide a little fluff in my selection. This animated film beats Jon Favreau’s live action flick to audiences by a couple of months… like 15.
